No one expected that typhoon sendong will really make a huge damage in the city of Iligan and Cagayan De Oro. Around 6 pm, I was in the mall and everyone was busy buying anything, they were chatting, and everyone seems so calm not minding that a typhoon will surely hit the city soon. The rain was pouring hard when the night came and the wind was so strong that even our TV antenna fell down from our roof. We thought that it will be just an ordinary typhoon, not that disastrous than those typhoons that usually hit Luzon. We decided to sleep early. When I woke up everybody was talking about flood, Bayug, Orchids, and dead bodies. I asked them what had happened and they told me everything about the flood and that it took numerous lives. My heart melt when I saw people walking in the street with no slippers, covered with mud and mourning like losing someone. The streets were full of mud and garbage, everything looks topsy-turvy. We went to Hinaplanon and Orchids to check our relatives if they were okay and also to see the effects of the typhoon. I feel pity when I saw the people were trying to dig the died bodies of their love ones, it seems that they are still hoping that the person they are digging is still alive. And that scenario gives me a thought and some questions, questions that should hit the minds of the people before the flood came like what if everyone was ready for the flood? What if the people leaving beside the rivers banks evacuated? What if everyone has knowledge on how to deal with flood? What if everyone tried to save their family first before their possessions? What if there were no logs involve? What if the mountains are still full of woods? And what if we didn’t abuse nature? Maybe if we think and did all this things it will not end up like that. If the people prepare for that kind of catastrophe and listen to the warnings maybe their families will be still complete. Death is like a hungry lion ready to devour anyone it comes across the way, we should always be ready to fight and protect ourselves from it. And if only we take good care of the environment it will not be that damageable and it will just kill few people or maybe no one will be gone. This must be a lesson. A lesson we should always reflect. Maybe it’s too painful for now but I know someday it will gonna make sense.
